Στην 89η τελετή η οποία πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Λος Άντζελες, ο Henry Warren Beatty, ο οποίος παρουσίαζε το συγκεκριμένο βραβείο έλαβε λάθος φάκελο από την παραγωγή.
Ο ηθοποιός άνοιξε το φάκελο και διάβασε, πως η ταινία «La La Land» κερδίζει το Oscar καλύτερης ταινίας με τους διοργανωτές να τον ειδοποιούν γρήγορα, πως τελικά το βραβείο κερδίζει η ταινία «Moonlight».
